Lieutenant Colonel Dang Quoc Tuan, Vice Dean of the Foreign Languages and Vietnamese Language Department of the School of Political Officers, has been assigned to work at the UNISFA Mission in the Abyei region, on the border between South Sudan and the Republic of Sudan. Following a decision announced on July 27, Tuan will perform the duties of an operation staff officer.

At a ceremony in Hanoi to announce the decision, Lieutenant Colonel Tuan said it is an honor and a great responsibility to carry out the task assigned by the President and the Minister of National Defense. He said he understands that he must study and strive to fulfill the task while serving as a messenger to promote Vietnam’s diplomatic relations with the host country, as Vietnam has no diplomatic representative office in that area.

Tuan promised to strictly abide by the Army's discipline and the provisions of the United Nations, as well as the laws of the host country, respect the cultural identity, religion, and life of local people, cooperate closely with colleagues to successfully complete the assigned mission, and ensure absolute safety in all aspects.

He will join his teammates in humanitarian activities to spread a good image of a Vietnamese soldier internationally.

As an operation staff officer at the UNISFA Mission, Abyei region, Tuan will have the additional task of coordinating and effectively supporting other officers and Engineering Rotation Unit 2, which will depart to Abyei on Tuesday to replace Engineering Rotation Unit 1.

Hoang Xuan Chien, Deputy Defense Minister and Head of the Ministry’s Steering Committee on participation in UN peacekeeping operations, said the performance of Vietnamese soldiers at the UN peacekeeping mission has been praised by the United Nations and the local people.
