Agriculture plays a major role in Vietnam’s economy. Global integration has required the country to produce higher quality agricultural products. As climate change and food demand are challenging agricultural production, high-tech agriculture is an inevitable direction to improve productivity and quality, and satisfy social needs.

The Vietnamese Party, State, and Government have issued a number of documents defining modern agricultural development and hi-tech application in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Vietnam aims to modernize and commercialize agriculture, shift to large production based on science and technology, and improve productivity, quality, and competitiveness. Agricultural production will be diversified to the advantages of each region in association with domestic and global demand, and adaptive to climate change.

Businesses have invested in large-scale production zones and modern facilities to process and stockpile products for exports. VietGAP standard has been widely applied to increase productivity and produce safe and high quality products. The vast-field model has connected production and consumption in value chains.

Science and technology have been applied to all stages of agricultural production from research, selection and breeding of plants and animals, cultivation, animal food, fertilizers, and post-harvest preservation.
