(VOVworld) – In Vietnam’s human resource development strategy for the 2011-2020 period, human resources is considered the basic and most important necessity for Vietnam’s sustainable social stability, and international integration. Vocational training schools in Vietnam play an important role in improving the competitiveness of Vietnam’s human resources. VOV’s Hang Thanh Hoa reports….

There are currently 167 colleges, 306 technical colleges, and 875 vocational training centers in Vietnam, training 200,000 students in 1500 trades and occupations a year. Over the past 5 years, Vietnam has seen 12 million people trained in 34 occupations, with quality on a par with that of many developed countries. At present, more and more private vocational training centers are being established to satisfy the labor market’s demands. Nguyen Hong Minh, deputy head of the Vocational Training General Department, said 70% of students graduating from vocational training schools and colleges were able to find jobs. He called for stronger cooperation between businesses and vocational training facilities to improve the quality of human resources: "In order to do this, vocational training centers should establish specific agencies in charge of promoting ties with businesses. The government can provide businesses with capital and information regarding vocational demands."

Over the past decade, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs has cooperated with related ministries, research institutes, and businesses to establish 164 programs designed for vocational colleges and technical schools, and hundreds of short-term vocational courses. Many colleges and technical schools have applied foreign syllabuses to help their students be able to use advanced technologies. Associate Professor Dr. Do Van Dung, head master of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education, said: "The Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education is the first in southern Vietnam to establish an online vocational training center. The US government has provided our university with 250,000 USD to install 3d cameras in several classrooms. Teachers from schools and universities across the southwestern region can attend our university’s online lectures once they register an account with us."

The Vocational Training General Department has set a target of developing a network connecting 1500 vocational training centers that provide education and training for 300,000 people in 2015, to address market and business demands. Duong Duc Lan, head of the Vocational Training General Department, said: "The quality of human resources is of great importance as Vietnam steps up international integration. The government has agreed on a project to build high-quality vocational training schools by 2020. This is one of many factors that ensure Vietnam’s global integration and improve the competitiveness of our labor resources."

Vietnam’s human resource development strategy has set out a target of building at least 10 international standard vocational schools by 2020 to develop competitive labor resources for national development.
