Amid complications in the global economic crisis and unpredictable developments in the eurozone, the World Economic 2012 attracts huge attention from regional and international communities. With the theme “Shaping the Region’s Future through Connectivity,” the forum will focus on the roles played by the ASEAN economies with high economic growth to help rebalance the global and regional overall economic outlook. Delegates will discuss the roles of governments and institutions in the development of financial policies to manage inflation, capital outflows, the volatility of commodity prices and a more balanced growth to stimulate a greater domestic and regional demand. They will also discuss how the region will use its demographic dividends and technology base to develop a model that will increase growth through innovation, introduce a mobile workforce, help entrepreneurs and raise the level of workers’ skills.

The World Economic Forum (WEF) is known as a global prestigious forum that attracts the attention and participation of many leaders of big countries in the world, international organizations, and leading companies and groups around the globe. WEF organizes global and regional forums annually, gathering government leaders, business CEOs, social and religious organizations, and scholars around the globe where they discuss the world’s current pressing issues and pledge for cooperation for common prosperity.

Vietnam has increasingly integrated into the world and actively participated in international forums. The country successfully hosted the WEF in June, 2010 in Ho Chi Minh City. The event had four key topics for discussions: the leadership of Asia , global risks, green growth programs, and future growth programs. It attracted 450 delegates, including government leaders from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. Vietnam’s successful hosting the forum has created strong diplomatic impressions on world senior leaders and international business circle attending the event.

The Vietnamese delegation to this year’s WEF led by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung is expected to contribute many important ideas to the forum’s agenda by sharing its experiences in developing socio-economy, ensuring macro economy, restructuring the economy, and attracting foreign investment. This is an ideal opportunity for Vietnam to promote its image and raise its profile in the region.
