(VOVWORLD) - On September 2, 1945, President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence, declaring to the world an independent Vietnam with its people free to master their own destiny. Since then, independence and freedom have served as the guiding star for the Vietnamese people’s national construction and defense.

The 1945 Declaration of Independence gave birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

“Vietnam has the right to be a free and independent country – and in fact is so already. The entire Vietnamese people are determined to mobilize all their physical and mental strength, to sacrifice their lives and property in order to safeguard their independence and liberty,” the Declaration said.

Independence and freedom are the aspiration of the entire nation

Independence and freedom are not only the aspiration but also the raison d’être that President Ho Chi Minh, the Communist Party of Vietnam and the people have been persistently pursuing.

The desire to live in independence, freedom and happiness in a peaceful, independent, and unified Vietnam has motivated Vietnamese people to devote all their heart and mind to follow the Party, win resistance wars against foreign invaders, and embark on their path to socialism.

The Declaration of Independence has inspired Vietnam to recover from the destruction of war, advance to a brighter future, and fight for peace, independence, freedom, democracy, and social progress.

“The Declaration of Independence has always been the lodestar for our nation. Vietnam has a special geographical position as it is located on the route between East and West and between the Indian and the Pacific Ocean. Therefore, national independence and sovereignty must be sustained,” said Do Duc Minh, a senior lecturer at Hanoi National University.

Independence and freedom, the guiding star for national development

Building on the spirit of the Declaration of Independence, Vietnam, starting as a poor country devastated by war, has succeeded in its renewal process making significant achievements in economic growth, social progress, social equality, cultural development, new-style rural building, and human development.

“As the enormous achievements brought by the revolution are undeniable, we are confident in the path we are taking. We are confident in our ultimate goal of ensuring people’s happiness and the country’s prosperity,” Prof. Dr. Vũ Minh Giang said.

Vietnam – peace loving, friendly and hospitable, with impressive economic growth, and contributions to the international community – has earned worldwide acclaim.

“Vietnam is rich in history and national traditions and is developing rapidly. Young Vietnamese are very dynamic. Many of them have been trained overseas and become important human resources for their country. I have witnessed what Vietnam has achieved and firmly believe that your country will advance further in the future,” said Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Vietnam Yerlan Baizhanov.

Vietnam is working diligently to realize the targets set by the 13th National Party Congress in 2021. Over the past two and a half years, the country has managed to surmount unprecedented challenges to gain encouraging, important and comprehensive achievements.

The spirit of independence and freedom delivered by the 1945 Declaration of Independence will continue to guide the Vietnamese people and create momentum for Vietnam to meet new national goals for development.
