In Can Gio district, agriculture is identified as an important economic sector accounting for the second largest proportion of the local economy, after trade and services. Can Gio district provides agricultural products to HCM City and neighboring provinces, supplies raw materials the One Commune One Product (OCOP) program, and welcomes tourists.

Recently, the district signed a cooperation agreement with the Department of Industry and Trade, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, and Tiki Co., Ltd to build brands for local products and promote them on the multi-channel distribution and retail network. The district has strengthened links between supply and demand and developed brands for local agricultural and handicraft products.

Nguyen Nguyen Phuong, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade, said building a multi-channel supply chain of Vietnamese agricultural products and specialties will promote the restructuring and standardization of the process of raising, processing and producing these commodities.

Vo Phuong Thuy, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Dong Thap province, said that Ho Chi Minh City is one of Vietnam’s major markets and also a hub for domestic goods going to domestic and global markets. Strengthening the connection of supply and demand and promoting multi-channel sale through e-commerce channels will expand the market for Vietnamese agricultural products and specialties.

Amid rapid changes of consumption habits following the online shopping trend, experts say e-commerce is an important channel for Vietnamese agricultural products and specialties heading to the global marketplace.
