Over the past two years, Vietnam has proved to be a proactive, dynamic and responsible member of the UN Human Rights Council. Vietnam has worked with other UN members in addressing global challenges to human rights.

A proactive, dynamic, responsible member

Vietnam has participated in and contributed to all agendas and discussions of all rights related to economics, culture, society, development, education, health care, freedom of speech, and freedom of the press. Vietnam has contributed to resolutions and decisions of the UN Human Rights Council and has attended annual conferences of the Council to present Vietnam’s protection and promotion of human rights and its responsibility in addressing global human rights issues. At these events, Vietnam introduced its priorities, shared its experience, and mobilized resources from other countries to the protection of human rights in Vietnam.

Vietnam’s dynamic role is reflected in its implementation of the Universal Periodic Review, which has proved Vietnam’s seriousness in realizing its commitments.

Promoting dialogues and cooperation

Over the past 2 years, Vietnam has used several UN mechanisms to promote dialogues and cooperation between members in addressing complicated and sensitive issues to promote and protect human rights. Vietnam is well aware that every country must be responsible for ensuring human rights and that the people will determine ways to protect human rights based on their economic, historical, cultural and social conditions. The UN Human Rights Council and other UN agencies need to create favorable conditions for ensuring human rights. Through dialogues and cooperation, Vietnam has contributed to ensuring development rights, preventing violence, discrimination, and human trafficking, and protecting the rights of women, children, and the disabled. Vietnam is the co-author of more than 30 resolutions on human rights.

Promoting Vietnam’s prestige

Vietnam’s membership on the UN Human Rights Council has demonstrated the growth of Vietnamese diplomacy. In the last two years, Vietnam has established cooperation with 46 countries and has contributed to UN documents on human rights.

Being a member of the UN Human Rights Council has given Vietnam an opportunity to protect its national interests and promote its image and position in the world. During its last year on the Council, Vietnam will continue to be a proactive and responsible member.
