Reports and presentations at the seminar highlighted the rapid and comprehensive development of Vietnam’s energy sector, which basically meets the demands of socio-economic development. Vietnam’s index of energy access ranks 27th among 190 countries and territories. Its oil and gas exploitation and chemical refinery industry has developed steadily while exploitation of coal products has increased and hydro, wind, and solar power have grown. The sector has mobilized investment and contributed greatly to socio-economic development and national defense.
Seminar participants attributed the energy sector’s achievements to investment by the private sector. Nguyen Tuan Anh, Deputy Director of the Department of Electricity and Renewable Energy of the Ministry of Industry and Trade said that the private sector has participated in many power projects nationwide. Build-Operate-Transfer and Independent Power Producer projects provided more than 27% of national power in 2019 compared to 14.41% in 2010.
Mr. Anh Nguyen Tuan Anh said: “Engagement in power development by foreign and domestic private investors without government guarantees has proved to be effective. The Ministry of Industry and Trade considers private investment in energy an important economic spearhead. Policies to attract private investment in energy have been fruitful.”
