(VOVWORLD) - The National Assembly began a Q&A session with cabinet members on Monday.  The format and agenda of this mid-term Q&A session will differ from previous sessions, reflecting the National Assembly’s determination to improve its performance.

Q&A sessions are an additional oversight function of the National Assembly that supplements passing laws and deciding major national issues. The ongoing two-and-a-half-day Q&A session checks the fulfillment of promises that cabinet members and sector heads have made before the National Assembly.

Oversight of promises made before the National Assembly

Tran Thi Dieu Thuy, a deputy for HCM City, said: "This is a special session as lawmakers can question any cabinet member. Voters and I expect to receive thorough explanations by Government officials of problems they face in addressing voters’ concerns or in socio-economic management. "

Deputy Le Dap An Xuan of Phu Yen province said: "I applaud the format of the Q&A session proposed by the National Assembly Standing Committee. It will reveal the sector heads’ creativity, flexibility, and management capacity and the coordination between agencies."

Efficiency is ensured

The ongoing Q&A session will focus on the general economy, the macro economy, a sectoral economy, culture, social issues, justice, internal affairs, or the state audit. The duration of each specific session is not fixed, but as flexible as the situation requires.

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue said this Q&A format is the best way to conduct oversight, because what the voters need is clear results. The Q&A session would not be effective without assessing how well promises have been fulfilled. All issues will be examined from several perspectives.

Deputy Trinh Xuan An of Dong Nai province said:  "This time Q&A will be different. We’ll focus sectoral issues so we can have an in-depth discussion on them."

The National Assembly’s Q&A session is of great interest to the public. Its key purpose is to help ministers and sector heads improve their performance and give voters a better understanding of what the government, ministries, and sectors are doing to implement National Assembly resolutions.
