NA improves efficiency of its oversight

The National Assembly conducted a vote of confidence on 44 individuals who were either elected or approved by the legislature. This mechanism reflects an improved and more efficient oversight role for the National Assembly, while serving to evaluate the performance and prestige of the individuals receiving the vote of confidence. According to Resolution 96 of the National Assembly, the results of this vote is a foundation for competent agencies to plan, train, organize, and utilize cadres effectively.

In a groundbreaking move, the Prime Minister, all Deputy Prime Ministers, and 21 Ministers and sector heads engaged directly with National Assembly deputies in the Q&A session. This new format included discussions on the implementation of 10 National Assembly resolutions and 21 fields.

During the two-and-a-half-day Q&A session, 457 National Assembly deputies registered to ask questions, with 152 posing questions and 39 engaging in debates with cabinet members. The lively, straightforward tone of the session facilitated a robust exchange of ideas and perspectives.

Hoang Van Cuong, a deputy for Hanoi, said: "This time, instead of a single Minister answering deputies’ questions, deputy ministers and sectors heads were asked to field queries relevant to their area of responsibility."

The supreme oversight session on the implementation of the National Target Programs on New Rural Development, Sustainable Poverty Reduction, and Socio-Economic Development of Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas took center stage during the first round.

Deputies agreed to extend the implementation time and disbursement of the 2023 central budget for these three national target programs until the end of next year, emphasizing improved coordination among their respective offices for enhanced quality and effectiveness.

Creating momentum for growth

The National Assembly discussed the socio-economic development plan, a mid-term review of the 2021-2025 socio-economic development plan, and the economic restructuring plan for the 2021-2025 period. Results of the implementation of Resolution 43, which outlines fiscal and monetary policies to support socio-economic recovery and development, were also scrutinized.

A significant outcome of this session was the passage of a resolution on the Socio-Economic Development Plan for 2024, setting a GDP growth target of 6-6.5%, which will require great effort and determination from the entire system.

Trinh Xuan An, a National Assembly deputy for Dong Nai province said: "The relatively high growth target creates pressure, but also motivates the government and the entire political system to strive. I agree with the socio-economic targets of the resolution and, as we have discussed these targets thoroughly, we have reason to be confident that they are achievable."

The diligence and dedication of the National Assembly deputies throughout this session have resulted in a substantial workload, which is expected to contribute significantly to national socio-economic development and the success of the National Assembly.
