A workshop on encouraging patriotic emulation movements based on Ho Chi Minh’s Thought in the new era opened in Hanoi this week. Editor in chief of the Communist Party of Vietnam’s online newspaper Dao Duy Quat said: “The goal of emulation should be linked to the political mission of each sector and locality. Emulation movements encourage patriotism, self reliance, industriousness, trustworthiness and sacrifice for the nation. The interests of individuals, collectives and society should be balanced in all emulation movements.”

Patriotic emulation movements now involve more diverse participants. Movements to support Agent Orange/Dioxin victims and war invalids, build Truong Sa island, reduce poverty and particularly to build new rural areas have had a positive response in society. Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Tran Van Tung said science and technology also contribute significantly to national development and improving people’s lives: “We are working with relevant ministries and sectors to support farmers in plant growing and know-how as well as trademark and market development. We have implemented programs to conserve DNA of precious plant. We are transferring new technology to farmers and we hope that the application of science and technology will help improve their incomes.”

The army has been the vanguard of patriotic emulation movements in recent years. Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Tuan is an official from the General Department of Politics under the Ministry of Defense: “Our army has, for the first time, been able to produce short wave transmitters from 2W to 250W to ensure smooth communications nationwide without using imported machines. This means that we have been able to master high-level technology.”

Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court Bui Ngoc Hoa said President Ho Chi Minh’s teachings on patriotic emulation are guidelines for Vietnam’s revolutionary movements: “The court sector has contributed to fighting crimes, maintaining political security and social order, and protecting justice. President Ho Chi Minh’s teachings in any period of history have always been orientations for the judicial system. We have implemented movements to follow President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example to better fulfill our duties.”

Patriotic emulation movements have served as a source of spiritual encouragement for the entire population to achieve the set targets and bring the nation forward.
