During the three-day event, 100 girls from around the country, half of them ethnic minority girls, will have an opportunity to speak on the topics of "Safety for Girls in the Cities" and "Ending Child Marriage." The girls will recommend ways to ensure their rights and benefits at the 2018 National Girls Forum on Sunday. Ngo Thi Minh, Deputy Head of the NA Committee on Culture, Education, Youth, Adolescents and Children, stressed the significance of the event in accelerating children’s participation in addressing social issues.
"Children’s rights to participation are clearly stated in a chapter of the 2016 Law on Children. This event promotes this right. We need to collect different viewpoints, including those of children, in addressing child abuse and ensuring the interests of children", said Ms. Minh.
In Vietnam, Plan International kick-started the Girls Takeover event in 2016, a communications event for girls’ rights, with participation by more than 1.000 students, teachers, and parents. Last year, the campaign was expanded to 7 northern and central provinces, involving 15,000 children and adults.
