The festival, which has the theme "Arabica, Son La Coffee - flavors of the northwest mountains and forests" will feature a coffee gala, a farmers’ competition, the inauguration of investment projects in the coffee sector and Cascara tea production lines in Mai Son district, and a conference on coffee trade connections.

The Festival – being held for the first time in Son La province, a large Arabica coffee growing area of nearly 20,000 hectares – will showcase the coffee products of farms, cooperatives, and businesses in Son La.

Vuong Van Hai, Chairman of the Son La provincial Coffee Association, said: "Son La is one of the largest coffee and tea production provinces in Vietnam. It is now focusing on producing specialty coffee, high-quality coffee, and certified coffee. This year, the province organized its first coffee festival to honor coffee producers. This is also an opportunity to promote Son La coffee, its culture, and its people."

A competition for coffee growers will be held in Chieng Co commune, Son La city. To prepare for the event, farmers are pruning coffee trees artistically.

Quang Thi Trang of Chieng Co commune, said: "We’re very excited about the competition. We have repaired and clean the roads in our villages and pruned our coffee trees to create beautiful gardens. We are ready for the competition and welcoming visitors."

Cà Trung Hoà, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Chieng Co commune, which has nearly 1,000 ha of coffee, said: "Local people have grown coffee for more than 30 years. Coffee is the main crop helping us increase our income and reduce poverty. We hope our products will be widely introduced to domestic and foreign tourists through the festival, which will help increase our income."

The festival will be an opportunity for Son La province to promote its image and the brands of Son La coffee and Vietnamese coffee.
