The 20th International  Symposium on Volcanospeology (ISV 20) will be held from November 22nd to 26th in Dak Nong central highlands province. It will feature conferences, workshops, exhibitions and tourism promotion activities as well as field trips to volcanic caves in Krong No district.

Dak Nong province set up an ISV Organizing Board headed by Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People’s Committee Ton Thi Ngoc Hanh.

By hosting ISV 20, Dak Nong province hopes to further promote its volcanic cave system, a unique geological heritage, to a wider international audience. This will also be an opportunity for the province to gain international experience in heritage preservation, management, and sustainable development to serve local tourism. The symposium is also of great importance to the re-appraisal of UNESCO Dak Nong Global Geopark in 2023.

Ms. Ton Thi Ngoc Hanh said: "The symposium is a good opportunity for us to promote the values of the volcanic cave system to serve scientific research and to preserve and exploit the heritage for tourism development. In addition to symposium, we will also organize sideline activities to introduce Dak Nong’s potential for industrial, agriculture, cultural, and tourism development."

The Dak Nong Geopark is home to 5 volcano craters and the longest system of caves in Southeast Asia at 10 km. More interestingly, some caves in the region were the habitat of pre-historic people that lived 6,000 to 10,000 years ago, and these caves still contain rare ecosystems. The volcanic cave system in Dak Nong geopark embraces great scientific values and is a destination for adventure tourists.
