(VOVworld)- The ninth meeting of the 11^th Party Central Committee agreed on Wednesday to issue a new resolution on Vietnamese culture and human development to match requirements of sustainable development.

Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong said cultural theoretical ideology and people’s cultural life has improved in the 15 years of implementing the Resolution of the 5^th session of the 8^th Party Central Committee on culture. Traditional Vietnamese cultural values were inherited and promoted. International exchanges and cooperation in culture were enhanced. Compared with achievements in politics, economics, national defense, security and external affairs, however, achievements in culture have fallen short. Trong stressed the need to inherit, supplement and develop the party’s viewpoints on cultural development as stated in the resolution of the 5^th party plenum, stressing that culture is the spiritual foundation of society and the aim, driving force and internal strength of sustainable development.

Focusing on enhancing people’s personality and morality

The Party Central Committee noted that Vietnam’s cultural identity embraces values that have accumulated through thousands of years of national construction and defense. They are patriotism, national self-reliance, unity between individuals, villages, the family, the homeland, compassion, morality, noble sacrifice for national independence and human happiness, polite behavior,and civilized lifestyle. The Party leader said: “In building culture, it is necessary for focus on improving people’s personality, ethics, and lifestyle and building a healthy cultural environment. We should aim our cultural activities at improving Vietnamese people’s intellectuality, ethics, health, creativity, civic awareness, and obedience to the law.  We should promote culture as a factor to encourage people to improve their personality. We need to include human ethics and citizen ethics in educational activities”

Trong said culture should be placed on the same level as politics, economics and society and that economic growth should go along with cultural development, social progress and equality. Vietnam is building an advanced culture embracing national identity and the diversity of Vietnamese ethnic culture. Trong said: “An advanced Vietnamese culture is a patriotic and progressive culture whose key is national independence ideology and socialism in the light of Marxism Leninism, Ho Chi Minh’s thought and the cultural quintessence of human beings. All these are for the sake of people, their freedom, happiness and comprehensive development in their relations with others in the community and with nature. We need to promote good deeds, good people, protect humanitarian values in social life and at the same time eliminate bad deeds, backwardness and wrong viewpoints that impact culture building and social stability”.

Stepping up international cooperation in culture

The Party leader said that the rapid globalization trend helps to promote cultural exchanges and cooperation in all areas including politics, economics, culture and society. The forms of cooperation and cooperation partners have become more diversified, flexible, and practical. Trong said: “We need to develop a strategy for cultural workers and increase resources for culture. It is necessary to focus on reforming, improving efficiency of the State management in culture in the process of international integration. We also need to uphold cultural finest values in cultural development and management experiences from other countries”.

Building an advanced Vietnamese culture embracing national identity to serve national development is the primary task of the Vietnamese revolution. Orientations set out at the 9^th Plenum of the 11^th Party Central Committee are of great strategic importance in Vietnam’s cultural development reflecting the role and stance of the Vietnamese Communist Party in national cultural development in the new period.
