Vietnam is one of Chinese tourists' favorite destinations

According to the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism, Chinese visitors totaled 357,000 in May, reclaiming the top spot for the first time in many years and surpassing the 351,000 visitors from South Korea, who led the rankings for the past four years. Added to the tourists from South Korea, Taiwan (China), the US, and Japan, the influx of Chinese tourists is expected to significantly revive Vietnamese tourism.

In the first five months of the year, Da Nang city welcomed over 163,000 Chinese visitors, nearly 11% of the city's total international arrivals. The city is actively promoting tours in the Chinese market.

Nguyen Thi Hoai An, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Tourism, said: "In the near future, we will resume promoting flights and markets in mainland China. In the third quarter, we will conduct a promotional program in the Guangzhou market and will also connect with cruise promotion programs from China."

Tourism authorities and businesses in Vietnam and China are collaborating to develop new tourism products. Travel industry professionals attribute the large number of Chinese tourists in May to effective tourism promotion, proximity, and Vietnam's beautiful beaches.

Nguyen Trung Quan, Director of the Avitour Travel Company, said: "Chinese visitors to Vietnam are likely to visit Ha Long Bay and renowned destinations in the north and the central region, as well as the coastal area of Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa. Affordable prices, beautiful beaches, and diverse services are reasons why a large number of tourists come to Vietnam every day."

ham My Trang, Chairwoman of the Phuong Nam Travel Company said: “Vietnam, with its beautiful beaches, rich culture, and history, has drawn Chinese tourists back in significant numbers after the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Before the pandemic, China was Vietnam's largest tourism market, with over 5.8 million visitors in 2019, accounting for one-third of international visitors. Tourism businesses are optimistic that the return of Chinese tourists will substantially contribute to Vietnam's goal of attracting 18 million international visitors this year.
