The Voice of Vietnam Awards 2021 honored 60 radio, television, and online journalistic works, scientific research projects and technology initiatives, plus artists and MCs.

A special award went to a piece called “COVID-19, not just a pandemic” created by a group of journalists from VOV’s News and Current Affairs channel (VOV1).

This work showed COVID-19 as a special pandemic, a historic pandemic that humankind has not experienced before and which has had a disastrous effect on people’s lives.

“At first, our work aimed simply to describe a series of events that showed the development of the historic COVID-19 epidemic in Vietnam. However, when we obtained a valuable news source from our correspondent in China who visited Wuhan, the epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak, we changed our plan to convey a larger message about this pandemic and its great impact, not only in Vietnam,” said Bui Thu Trang of VOV1.

VOV reporters went to many COVID-19 epicenters and met with many doctors and other medical personnel who have struggled to save lives.

They also covered charity and volunteer work to highlight the great contribution of volunteers. Despite the risk of contracting the virus themselves, the reporters hurried on-site to get accurate news as it developed.

“VOV reporters don’t mind difficulties and risks. They’re ready to go to many places, even dangerous ones, to cover the latest events,” said VOV Vice President Pham Manh Hung.

Journalist Dong Manh Hung, a member of the jury board, said, “All the entries this year were produced in modern forms, including reality radio and TV shows, and e-magazines, reflecting the evolution of the journalism sector. All the reporters are very talented and keep in mind the importance of their mission to the public.”
