Since the beginning of this year, stage performances have been frequently broadcast on the Hai Phong Radio and TV station. The program have included classic songs by the Dong Vọng band, a reformed opera entitled “The hero of Cua Uc”, and a drama called “Green daisies by the swamp”.

The programs are meticulously produced and have been very popular. Mr. Le Khac Nam, Vice Chairman of the Hai Phong municipal People’s Committee, said, “The effort and creativity of the art troupes have renewed traditional art forms to attract a contemporary audience.”

Director of Hai Phong city’s Department of Culture and Sports Tran Thi Hoang Mai said the TV performing arts series was launched because artists were eager to return to the stage after a long hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic and also because the public had a pent-up demand to see performances.

So far, 30 performances have been broadcast. During the COVID-19 social distancing period, although many cultural and art activities were halted, the people of Hai Phong could still enjoy music, dramas, and other performing arts on TV. The city’s Department of Culture and Sports organized 80 mobile performances in remote and island areas to reach more people.

Ms. Tran Ly Ly, acting Director of the Department of Performing Arts of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said Hai Phong’s cultural sector has worked with the Vietnam Stage Artists Association to create art productions with sophisticated sets, music, sound, and lights.

The productions have focused on history, land, and people of Hai Phong and promoted Hai Phong as a dynamic, integrated, and developing city, according to Ly.

“Hai Phong has been a role model in promoting the performing arts to a wider audience. We hope other localities will follow suit to promote the performing arts and improve the spiritual life of people,” she said.

Director of Hai Phong city’s Department of Culture and Sports Tran Thi Hoang Mai said the agency is working out a specific plan to produce more music, art, and drama shows next year.
