Ho Chi Minh’s life, career and great personality have provided endless inspiration for Vietnamese artists and writers. Their works praise President Ho Chi Minh’s thoughts and moral example encouraging every individual and organization to follow suit. Since 2011, the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communications and Education has worked with relevant Ministries and agencies to launch several writing and arts contests under the theme “Following President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example”. Professors Vu Khieu, Ha Minh Duc, and Tran Van Binh, and poet Hoang Choong were among the winners. Many winners were young or foreigners like Luis Andre Motess Rajas of Chile, as well as overseas organizations and Vietnamese in the UK, Australia and Sri Lanka. Vuong Duy Bien is Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism:“In works ranging from cinematography, drama, and fine arts to literature, the artists successfully feature the image of President Ho Chi Minh and role models in following President Ho Chi Minh’s example. These works are very useful for us and the younger generations”.

Colonel Doan Hoai Trung, Head of the Soldiers’ Photo Club, said he felt honored to have received a B prize in the contest. Trung said his club members over the years have created several works featuring role models in responding to the movement of following President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example: “President Ho Chi Minh is beautifully illustrated in our works. He gives us confidence. We have a photo collection featuring the image of soldiers at training, on the battlefield and in daily life. They are very optimistic and love life. The works describe young soldiers who follow their predecessors’ footsteps to defend the homeland and are devoted to the people in any circumstance”.

These works have been brought to remote and mountainous areas to teach ethnic minority people about President Ho Chi Minh, his thoughts and example. Many contest winners have been from Tay, Nung, Thai, Ede, the Chau Ro ethnic minority groups. Tran Huu Son is a representative of the Folklore Arts and Literature Association of Yen Bai, Lao Cai and Ha Giang province. Son received an A prize for his collection of folk poems themed “Mountain people are grateful to President Ho Chi Minh”: “President Ho Chi Minh is deep in the hearts of ethnic minority people and they are all grateful to him. Each hamlet and each group has its own works depicting the President. We have collected a bilingual manuscript of more than 40 folk poems about President Ho Chi Minh. Now, songs about President Ho Chi Minh and role models in following President Ho Chi Minh’s example are spread across all regions”.
