(VOVWORLD) - Playwright Luu Quang Vu and his spouse, poet Xuan Quynh have been admired for a number of literary works that they created throughout their careers. To celebrate the 80th birthday of poet Xuan Quynh, a poetry-music-drama night titled “Green Chrysanthemum” will be held to offer a glimpse at the life and career of the talented poet.

The theme of the event was inspired from a poem of the same name by Xuan Quynh. The first part of the night will portray Xuan Quynh through music and documentaries, featuring the voices of the poet and her husband Luu Quang Vu. The second part will feature the poet who was both vehement and gentle in love with performances by veteran artists.

“We will cooperate with director Tran Luc and musician Quoc Trung to create a drama with a new spirit. This year’s program will be different from the previous versions,” Director Hoang Diep said.

The highlight of the show is a drama based on the poem “Green Chrysanthemum” by Xuan Quynh and the play “Green Chrysanthemum by the marsh” by Luu Quang Vu. The two works seem to be connected just like the artists’ romantic and poetic love.

“The play is the extended version of the play ‘Green Chrysanthemum by the marsh’ and will be performed in a new artistic language to make it match the poetry night to commemorate poet Xuan Quynh,” People’s Artist Tran Luc said.

Xuan Quynh was featured on Google Doodles on October 6, 2019 to mark her 77th birth anniversary. She was one of the most searched Vietnamese artists on Google after musician Trinh Cong Son, and painter Bui Xuan Phai. After 30 years since her death, Xuan Quynh’s poems and name are still honored in Vietnam and throughout the world. For this occasion, musician Vinh Tien released a song called “Queen of the Night cactus.”

“My song will give a glimpse of the life and career of poet Xuan Quynh in a completely new way. I will also infuse the romantic contemporary music into the song to reflect her personality and lifestyle,” said Tien.

The poetry – music – drama night is scheduled to take place on October 5 and 6 at the Hanoi Opera House.
