The biennial festival honors Hue's heritages.
The Hue Festival represents the coming together of diverse performers from different cultures worldwide while promoting the unique cultural values of Vietnam’s imperial city of Hue. Hue Festival 2020 is a great opportunity to promote Hue as a city of culture, heritage, festival, verdant gardens, and tourism, together with its distinctive traditions and imperial values.
"We aim to make the Hue Festival more accessible to a wider public so that the general public can enjoy the internationally-acclaimed culture-art-tourism activities. We’ll set up two big stages and up to 4 mobile stages along the walking streets and Nguyen Dinh Chieu road," said Huynh Tien Dat, Director of the 2020 Hue Festival Centre.
Many spectacular cultural events will be held over the 6-day period, including a grand opening ceremony, the Nam Giao Offering Ritual expressing the desire for prosperity, peace and favorable weather, the “Royal Hue’s Essence” spectacle, a music concert dedicated to songwriter Trinh Cong Son, and an Ao Dai fashion show. Other highlights include the Hue – Capital of Gastronomy cuisine festival, the “Colors of Cultures” street parade, the ASEAN Night, the International Dance Festival 2020, along with several events running in tandem. Hue Festival 2020 will also feature many activities promoting environmental protection like “Green Sunday” and a campaign called “Building a green, clean, and bright city.” More than 20 international art troupes are expected to join this year’s festival.
"The Hue Festival has had its trademark promoted and recognized both nationally and internationally. Many businesses, organizations, and diplomatic missions in Vietnam have expressed their willingness to sponsor the event. This year’s festival will introduce to audiences some of the best performances to be seen worldwide," Nguyen Dung, Deputy Chairman of the provincial People's Committee, and Deputy Head of the 2020 Hue Festival’s organizing board, told VOV.
Mr. Amadou-Mahtar M'Bow, former head of UNESCO, said that Hue is masterpiece of architecture and is a city in complete harmony. The Festival is also an opportunity for visitors to experience Hue’s UNESCO recognized heritages, including the Complex of Hue Monuments, Nha Nhac royal court music, the Nguyen Dynasty’s wood blocks and royal administrative documents, and Literature on Hue Royal Architecture.
Hue lays co-claim to 2 intangible cultural heritages recognized by UNESCO: Bai Choi singing and the Worship of Mother Goddesses.
