Vietnam’s law ensures effective, sustainable fight against IUU fishing

It is also one of seven countries, alongside China, Indonesia, India, Peru, Russia, and Japan with the largest seafood catch volumes, underscoring its significant position in the global fisheries sector.

Vietnam is developing a responsible and internationally integrated fisheries sector, fully complying with global regulations to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing and to ensure the sustainable development of its fisheries industry.

Vu Duyen Hai, Deputy Director of the Directorate of Fisheries and Fisheries Surveillance under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, said that to date, international organizations and fisheries dialogue partners have recognized that Vietnam’s legal framework addresses IUU fishing efficiently and sustainably.

“Vietnam’s regulations are consistent and harmonized with global standards on IUU fishing control, as well as with those of countries with which Vietnam maintains trade relations,” Hai added.
