Sources stated that if the parties involved fail to reach an agreement by this deadline, the E3 group will activate the "snapback mechanism," as outlined by the United Nations Security Council, allowing for the reinstatement of all sanctions previously lifted under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), signed between Iran and the P5+1 (the UK, France, Germany, the US, Russia, and China) in 2015.
If reactivated, the mechanism would reimpose measures such as arms embargoes, travel restrictions, asset freezes of individuals and organizations, as well as financial transaction bans against Iran.
On July 14, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei warned that Iran will respond strongly if the UN reimposes sanctions on its nuclear program.
