(VOVWORLD) - French President Emmanuel Macron has condemned an “unacceptable attack” on UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNFIL) on Friday, amid escalating clashes along the border area between Israel and Hezbollah.

Macron stressed that UN peacekeepers must be protected and that any deliberate attack targeting them constitutes a serious violation of international law. Macron said France remains the largest troop contributors to the UNIFIL mission in Lebanon, underscoring its commitment to regional security and peace.

President Macron held urgent phone talks with US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, calling on all sides to exercise maximum restraint, while emphasizing the need to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Lebanon in order to avoid a full-scale war in the region.
