(VOVWORLD) -More than 200 French friends and Overseas Vietnamese rallied on Saturday at the Republic Square in Paris to express their support for a lawsuit between Tran To Nga, a French citizen of Vietnamese origin, and the American chemical companies that supplied the US Army with Agent Orange for use in the Vietnam War from 1961 to 1971.

Demonstrators included politicians, MPs, mayors of Paris districts and neighboring cities, representatives of left-wing parties and environmental movement activists. The Vietnamese Ambassador to France, Head of the Vietnamese Delegation to UNESCO, and representatives of the Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange (VAVA) also expressed support for Ms. Tran To Nga.

On Tuesday, the Paris Court of Appeal will hold a hearing of the lawsuit. Nga said that the International Association of Democratic Lawyers (IADL) has issued an Open Letter to the court expressing their views on this case.

“We request that the Paris Court of Appeal review this decision carefully and consider all relevant factors thoroughly to issue a fair ruling so that victims of Agent Orange can have a fair compensation for the miserable injuries they have been suffering. This well-deserved justice is long overdue and IADL will be side by side with the victims until they are duly compensated,” the Open Letter said.

Attending the rally, Vo Dinh Kim, coordinator of Collectif Vietnam-Dioxine, member of the Committee supporting Ms. Tran To Nga, said many associations fighting for the environment such as Green Peace and Attaque, as well as representatives of political parties and French citizens, have expressed their solidarity with Nga's action.

Europe-Ecologie-Les Verts (EELV) MP Sandrine Rousseau attended the event and expressed her admiration for the fighting spirit and the extraordinary perseverance and energy of Ms. Tran To Nga. She said the lawsuit brought to French court means that Nga and millions of Agent Orange victims are not abandoned and do not have to endure this pain alone.

Doctor Nguyen Hong Son, Vice President of Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange (VAVA), who is present in Paris to attend the court hearing, conveyed the support from Agent Orange victims in Vietnam for her action.
