Syrian President announces victory over IS on many fronts
(VOVworld) – Syrian President Bashar Al Assad said government forces have won on many battlefields thanks to Russian airstrikes over the past two months. He said that since Russia had joined the war against IS, the Syrian government army has gained more advantages in many localities.
The biggest victory was in breaking the IS stranglehold of Kweiras airport in Aleppo, northern Syria. Al Assad said Russian airstrikes had been more effective than air operations by the US-led coalition.
In another development, US President Barack Obama said IS cannot attack the US and that the terrorist network would be destroyed. On Sunday, he called on the American people not to allow the shadow of terrorism the affect their lives.
