Iranian president calls US sanctions an economic war on Iran

(VOVWORLD) - Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Monday described US sanctions imposed on Iran as an “economic war” and said an economic war is more brutal than a military war.

Rouhani spoke at the inauguration of the final phase of the sprawling Persian Gulf Star refinery in Bandar Abbas. The refinery has a capacity of 400,000 barrels a day, about 20% of Iran’s total refining capacity.

Tensions between Tehran and Washington escalated after US President Donald Trump decided last May to withdraw the US from the Iran nuclear deal and re-impose sanctions on Iran.
