Under The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) signed in 2015 between Iran and the P5 + 1 group, Iran must limit its nuclear weapons development program in exchange for sanctions relief.

The group consists of the UK, France, the US, Russia, China, and Germany.

Iran says its nuclear program is solely for peaceful purposes, in accordance with IAEA regulations.
