Van Tuong commune, Quang Ngai province, has a large fishing fleet, so election preparations must take into consideration the situation of fishermen. The commune’s 49,000 voters will elect 26 deputies to the communal People’s Council. Lists of voters and lists of candidates have been publicly posted at designated locations in accordance with regulations.

Commune authorities have coordinated with social organizations to inform each village and fishing crew of polling times and locations and encourage them to vote on election day, March 15.

Authorities are reviewing the situation of crews on long fishing trips to figure out an appropriate solution that will allow the fishermen to exercise their right to vote. Do Van Tinh, a fisherman from Phu Thien 1 village, Van Tuong commune, said: “Most people will be at home on that day. The authorities are visiting every household to encourage people to participate and cast their ballot for capable, virtuous representatives.”

On election day, March 15, Van Tuong commune will use the vessel monitoring system to track fishing boats at sea and persuade their crews to return to shore in order to vote.

In Hoa Trach commune, Quang Tri province, the authorities have informed fishermen in coastal villages of the Law on Elections and instructions concerning voting. In the early morning and late afternoon, village loudspeaker systems broadcast information about election day, voting procedures, and voters’ rights and obligations. They also use social media platforms to contact residents. After the first full moon of the Lunar New Year, the fishermen of Canh Duong village embarked on their first fishing trip of the year, but they intend to return to shore for the election.

A fisherman named Vo Sy Ve said: “Although arranging our work might be difficult, we’ll do our best to return in time to cast our ballots and contribute to a successful election.”
