In an interview on the threshold of Vietnam’s 13th National Women’s Congress, the UN Women Representative spoke highly of Vietnam’s efforts in gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Vietnam has set up a solid legal framework conducive to gender equality, she said, stressing the significance of the Gender Equality Law, the Law on Domestic Violence Prevention and Control, and the National Strategy for Gender Equality until 2030.

Vietnam has a strong commitment to improving the status of women in all spheres, including politics. The percentage of female deputies in the National Assembly has reached nearly 30.3%, higher than the world average of 25.5%, moving Vietnam from 65th to 54th in the global ranking as of August, 2021.

Women constitute 47.7% of the labor force and 26.5% of business owners and CEOs, higher than the regional average, Ms. Saenz noted. She said these figures reflect Vietnam’s remarkable progress in gender equality and women’s empowerment.
