He told a meeting of WHO Member State session on Thursday that the hard-won gains are being lost, and health systems in many countries are overwhelmed as the increased number of infections is creating a shortage of life-saving treatments.

He underscored that the needs are much greater than the resources we have to meet them. He called on countries and international organizations to prioritize COVAX to respond to the global pandemic.
