Mr. Dung, who is also Secretary General of the National ASEAN 2020 Committee, said this will be the year for a mid-term review of implementation of the master plan to build an ASEAN community by 2025.

2020 marks 25 years since Vietnam joined ASEAN, and the second time that Vietnam will serve as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

“Vietnam is determined to successfully build a united and strong ASEAN community based on achievements made in previous years. Vietnam has chosen ‘cohesive and responsive’ as a theme. This refers to cohesion in politics, economics, and among societies,” said Mr. Dung.

During 2020, Vietnam will organize 300 events at all levels. Most notable will be summits in April and November. By the end of this month, Vietnam will announce an official new logo and website for its ASEAN Chairmanship Year.
