All vessels in the affected areas have been requested to take shelter or return to shore. Do Duy Phong of the National Committee for Natural Disaster Response and Search and Rescue told VOV: “We have prepared all scenarios. Amphibious vehicles and boats will be deployed in case the transport network is flooded. Local authorities have been asked to work closely with the army”.
The typhoon is forecast to have an impact on Vietnam on Monday, causing heavy rains and posing flashflood and landslide threats in the northern uplands and north central region.
At least 25 people have died as Mangkhut hit the Philippines, and the death toll could go higher. The storm, which packs a 900km rain band and strong winds, is heading towards southern China. Hong Kong issued the highest level of typhoon warning on Sunday.
