At a UN meeting on the Convention against Torture in Geneva on Thursday, Mr. Vuong highlighted Vietnam’s achievements in torture prevention and control. He said the Vietnamese government, ministries, and localities nationwide have actively implemented the Convention and raised the public awareness and also worked with other countries, exchanged information and shared experience in preventing tortures and at the same time strengthened capacity for Vietnamese officials, particularly policemen in realizing the Convention.

The convention (also known as Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment) is one of the nine fundamental UN conventions on human rights. Vietnam signed the convention in 2013 and ratified it one year later.
