During their talks in Hanoi after the welcoming ceremony, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his Cambodian counterpart Samdech Techo Hun Sen praised Mr. Hun Sen’s visit when the two countries signed two legal documents recognizing the results of land border delineation and marker planting. They said this event will provide a foundation for the total completion of land border delineation and marker planting, contributing to building a shared border of peace, friendship, cooperation, and development.

Both leaders acknowledged the substantial progress of the Vietnam-Cambodia ties, particularly in trade and tourism. They agreed to constantly strengthen bilateral ties towards “good neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability.”

Both sides said shared their view on further connecting the two economies, especially via roads and waterways, electricity, tourism, finance, and banking, while accelerating trade and investment promotion and jointly building policy frameworks favorable for business, particularly SMEs.

The two PMs welcomed the possible achievement of their trade revenue target of 5 billion USD this year. They agreed on most appropriate measures to help the Vietnamese community in Cambodia to stabilize their lives, ensure their legal status, and contribute to Cambodia’s socio-economic development.

Both leaders reiterated the importance of maintaining peace, security, and stability in the region and pledged closer coordination to continue building developing the ASEAN Community, upholding ASEAN principles, consolidating ASEAN’s unity and self-reliance, and promoting ASEAN’s central role. They stressed the need to boost cooperation of the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle and the Greater Mekong Subregion to narrow the development gap, and sustainably manage and use the Mekong River water source to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals. First of all, both countries will work closely with each other in 2020, when Vietnam holds ASEAN Presidency and Cambodia hosts the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM).
