Ramzy said after his meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem in Damascus that the two sides discussed a plan to resume peace talks and the political transition approved by the UN. Muallem confirmed the intention of the Syrian government to participate in these talks. The peace roadmap endorsed by the UN calls for a transitional government, a new constitution, and elections by mid-2017. Syrian leader Bashar Al Assad’s political future has been the main hurdle.
