Mr. Ban called on all sides to exercise maximum calm and restraint, and to act with a sense of responsibility in order to prevent an escalation of what is already a devastating and highly dangerous conflict. The UN Chief also talked by phone with the Secretary General of the Arab League Nabil El Araby on the same day. The two sides expressed great concern over Israeli air strikes in Syria. Meanwhile, Syria vowed to react to new Israeli strikes by firing rockets at targets in Israeli territory. Syria’s army was told to respond to any attack from Israel without waiting for orders from the high command. Syria also supports attacks by Palestinian resistance forces against Israel from the Golan Heights.
