At the fourth meeting of the Confederation’s executive board in Hanoi on Friday, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said that the confederation should continue working with authorities at all levels in restructuring the economy, building new rural areas and developing fisheries trade unions, in order to protect offshore fishermen who contribute to safeguarding the country’s sacred sea and island sovereignty: “Workers’ lives remain difficult. Though many things have been done, we need to take better care of labourers’ living conditions because we aim to develop the economy in combination with ensuring social equality. We need to generate more jobs, provide more houses and coordinate with local authorities and government agencies to better implement policies on social insurance and health insurance”.
The Prime Minister also asked the trade unions to closely cooperate with authorities in paying more attention to improving labourers’ lives, protecting their legitimate rights and benefits and supporting institutional reforms, while performing the Party and State’s policies of global integration. He confirmed that the Government would work with the confederation and ministries to issue preferential policies, facilitating fishermen’s operations at sea for economic development and poverty reduction, thus contributing to safeguarding national sovereignty.
