(VOVWORLD) - A study has estimated that staging this year's Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo without spectators would result in a 23 billion USD loss for Japan.

Earlier, NHK reported that the Japanese government's expenses for the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics this summer will total more than 3.7 billion dollars. The figure is for the period starting in fiscal 2013, when Tokyo was selected as the host city, until fiscal 2021.

As scheduled, the Tokyo Olympic Games will be held from July 23 to August 8 and the Paralympic Games will take place from August 24 to September 5.
