(VOVworld) – UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon has called on all parties in Thailand to resolve Thailand’s conflict through constructive dialogue. His statement Tuesday came in the wake of a declaration by the Thai army of martial law nationwide. The statement said the way to secure peace and prosperity is through respect for democratic principles and engagement in democratic processes.

France stressed the necessity of finding a political solution to the crisis in Thailand. A statement by the French foreign ministry called on all parties to hold a dialogue to seek a peaceful solution. The French Foreign Ministry said parties should respect the Thai government authority.

The US and the EU urged Thailand’s caretaker government to honor perform its promise to organize fair elections on August 3rd. The US expressed a hope that martial law in Thailand is only a temporary measure.

The Thai army declared martial law on Tuesday after 7 months of protests that have killed 30 people and injured 700 others. Martial law forbids public gatherings and restricts travel while the army conducts searches, imposes curfews, and detains suspects for up to 7 days.
