In a statement, the charge d'affaires was informed of “the Egyptian government and people's complete rejection of the unfortunate, repeated incidents of copies of the Holy Quran being burnt or desecrated in Sweden".
In Denmark, a group of anti-Islam activists on Tuesday set fire to Qurans in front of the Egyptian Embassy in Copenhagen.
The same day, two members of the far-right, ultra-nationalist group Danish Patriots burned a Quran in front of the Iraqi embassy.
Last Friday, this group posted a video of a man burning a book believed to be a Quran and insulting the Iraqi flag in front of the Iraqi Embassy in Copenhagen, causing rage among the Islamic community in Iraq.
Last Saturday, hundreds of Iraqi protesters took to the streets to protest the desecration and tried to break into the heavily guarded Green Zone in Baghdad, where the headquarters of government agencies and many foreign embassies are located.
Denmark’s government has condemned the burning as provocative and shameful acts, but said it does not have the legal right to block non-violent demonstrators.
