Mr. Thuong made the remark while visiting the Archdiocese of Hue on the occasion of the upcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations.

He wished Archbishop Nguyen Chi Linh, Catholic dignitaries, and followers there a merry Christmas and a happy New Year, adding that he hopes the Archbishop will continue to encourage the local Catholic community to lead a good secular and religious life.

President Thuong said that he has signed a letter inviting Pope Francis to visit Vietnam.
