The Vietnamese leader praised the efforts of President Joe Biden and Kerry to mobilize action to deal with climate change, insisting that Vietnam wants to foster climate-change collaboration with the US in a way that meets Vietnam’s socio-economic conditions and interest.

Energy transition must ensure equality, Mr. Thuong said, pointing out that Vietnam has worked to promote green growth and climate change mitigation, and approved the National Power Development Planning for the 2021-2030 period with a vision to 2050, which aims to switch from fossil fuels to renewable energy and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

President Thuong said he hopes the US will continue to support energy transition projects in Vietnam that will help ensure long-term energy security. Mr.

Mr. Kerry said the US values its relationship with Vietnam and supports Vietnam’s role in the region.

The US will continue to help Vietnam increase its ability to adapt to climate change, control pollution, and manage its resources in an environmentally friendly manner in order to reduce its dependence on imported fuels, he said.

Mr. Kerry promised that, as a longtime friend of Vietnam, he will continue to advocate for making vulnerable communities in the Mekong Delta more resilient.
