(VOVworld) - Journalists and sports fans cast votes for the most outstanding athletes and coaches of 2014 in Hanoi, Da Nang city, and Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday. The organizers will announce the final results on Wednesday.

According to sports experts, weightlifter Thach Kim Tuan and swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien will compete for the Athlete of the Year title. Vien is the first Vietnamese swimmer to be listed among the world's 10 best swimmers in the women's 400m medley and the first to qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympics in Brazil. Vien won two bronze medals at the 17th Asian Games (ASIAD 17) and was nominated for the Youngest Outstanding Athlete at the Southeast Asian Games. Tuan won a gold medal at the World Youth Weightlifting Championships and set two world records in the men’s 56kg category. He received two silver medals at ASIAD 17 and also qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympics in Brazil.
