NATO holds Baltic Sea naval exercises involving Finland, Sweden

(VOVWORLD) - NATO kicked off a nearly two-week US-led naval exercise on the Baltic Sea on Sunday with more than 7,000 sailors, 45 vessels and 75 aircraft from 16 nations, including two aspiring to join the military alliance, Finland and Sweden.

The countries sending forces to participate in the exercise include Belgium, the Netherlands, Norway, Turkey, and the UK.

Sweden is playing the role of the host country of the BALTOPS 51 exercise.

The two main phases of the exercise include training activities to improve combat capabilities and training in coordination between forces.
