Tensions broke out between the 2 countries following the Turkish government's arrest of a staff of the US Consulate in Istanbul over alleged links to a cleric blamed for the failed 2016 Turkish coup. The US later announced a temporary halt to all Turkish visa applications. Turkey retaliated by announcing its own suspension of visa services in the US.
Stoltenberg also warned that a military intervention against North Korea would have devastating consequences and called for a negotiated solution. He stressed that NATO has no plan for military presence on the Korean peninsula and has received no such requests from Tokyo or Seoul.
