The general administration department said people are banned from protesting or gathering in groups of more than five, and a curfew will be in effect from 8 p.m to 4 a.m. The order will apply until further notice.
A similar declaration was made in a township in Ayeyarwaddy further south.
A protest in Myanmar has continued for 3 consecutive days since President U Win Myint, State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, and other high-ranking officials of the National League for Democracy (NLD) were arrested.
The President's Office has declared a state of emergency which will last for one year.
