(VOVworld) – Italy is worried of recent increasing number of migrants massing through its oceans. The Italian coast guard said it rescued 11.000 refugees trying to cross from Libya into Europe by boats.

In the past nine months, the number of migrants to Italy reached 143.184 people, 5% higher than the same period last year. This year’s number of migrants is likely to increase and reach a peak of 170.000 as of 2014.
According to expert Federico Soda of the International Organization for Migrant, Libya’s failure of controlling its situation has made condition for other African refugees to freely cross Libya territories, and then they were put on boat to reach the Mediterranean by traffickers.
