(VOVWORLD) - Iran’s armed forces chief of staff Mohammad Bagheri said Sunday that Iran’s attack on Israel achieved its goals.

Iran does not intend to conduct further attacks against Israel, Bagheri said but warned that Israel’s retaliatory actions would result in a much more serious response from Iran.

Iran's permanent delegation to the UN said on social network X on Sunday that the situation should be considered concluded and Israel should not carry out retaliatory attacks or Iran will respond much more seriously.

John Kirby, coordinator in charge of strategic communications at the White House National Security Council, said Sunday that the US does not seek war with Iran and does not desire a wider conflict in the region.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke with his Iranian counterpart by phone, cautioning against new dangerous provocations that could increase tensions in the Middle East.

During an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on Sunday, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres urged all parties to immediately cease hostilities and respect the safety of diplomatic and consular facilities and personnel in the region.

He stressed the need to avoid any action that could lead to a large-scale military confrontation on various fronts in the Middle East.

The G7 held an online meeting on Sunday and called on all parties to reduce tensions and exercise restraint in their actions.
