Bagheri ordered a high-ranking committee to launch an investigation into the cause of the president’s helicopter crash that took place on Sunday. The delegation headed by Brigadier Ali Abdollahi has been dispatched to the site of the incident and the investigation has already begun. State media blamed poor weather for the crash.

Iran will elect a new president on June 28. The decision to hold an election for Raisi’s successor was taken at a meeting of the heads of the judiciary, government, and parliament.

According to an agreement of the Guardian Council, Iran’s 14th presidential election will be held on June 28. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei on Monday named Iran’s first vice president, Mohammad Mokhber, acting President. As per Iran’s constitution, the interim president is duty-bound to make arrangements for the election of a new president within a maximum of 50 days.

Iran's cabinet met on Monday for the first time since the incident.
